LUXURY: The Diamond Marketer Leading The Fight Against Lab-Grown Stones

Here’s the first thing you should know: Jean-Marc Lieberherr believes a lab-grown diamond is not, in fact, a diamond.

 Chemically, the two are the identical. But to Lieberherr, a man who has spent the past 12 years of his career thinking about how to promote diamonds to the public, comparisons between the manmade stones and the ones that come out of the ground should end with their superficial qualities: hardness and sparkle. A real diamond, he says, is something much more valuable than a simple rock. It’s a symbol, one with a long and enduring history. And not just that –a diamond is miracle.
